MARTIAL ARTS

Master Philip has studied and practiced the traditional Oriental martial arts since 1964 and became an instructor of the Korean Martial Arts in 1976. He has had the privilege of teaching successive generations of students ever since. Since the mid-1970’s, to broaden his knowledge and understanding, he has travelled extensively in the UK, Europe, Korea and the USA, and has played a prominent role in helping to establish, develop, teach, and promote the Korean martial arts in the UK, appearing on national, as well as local TV. In June 1989, he was appointed as a UK Chief Instructor.

In October 2001, Master Philip was inducted into the Combat (magazine) Hall of Fame. This prestigious honour was awarded, 'in recognition of his commitment and devotion to the development of Martial Arts in the United Kingdom and around the world.’ Master Philip has also been featured on the front cover of several international martial arts publications and has had articles on the Korean martial arts published in several magazines. In June 2022, he was promoted to the rank of 9th Degree Black Belt and retired as a School Owner after 45 years of teaching. In September 2023, Master Philip was asked to become the Chief Master of a new, Korean Martial Arts association named Han Guk Mu Sool. He now concentrates on his new role within the HGMSA, as well as remaining actively training and teaching martial arts related Lecture-Workshops.

ORIENTAL MEDICINE

Master Philip followed a four-year, full-time course in Oriental medicine and western medical sciences, graduating in 1990 from the International College of Oriental Medicine UK (Bachelor of Acupuncture). He also attended lectures and seminars in South Korea and the USA. Subsequently, he lectured at the ICOM for several years, teaching classical Oriental medical history and philosophy, and was the senior Point Location teacher for first, second, third and fourth-year undergraduates. Philip also served as the Director of Studies of the college from 1991-1994.

Following his extensive training in Oriental medicine, in 1990, he established South Downs Acupuncture Clinics in the East Sussex area, where he continuously ran successful clinics for 30 years until his retirement from medical practice in 2020.

Although competent in all disciplines of the traditional Korean martial arts, because of his specialised knowledge and training in Oriental Medicine, Master Philip is especially renowned for his knowledge and expertise in the field of Ki Training and Pressure Point Technique.
